Pregnant, sister in tow, fleeing a mad man
A Home for Easter — Book 1 in the Apple Hill series
A Home for Easter is a captivating tale set during the tumultuous 1830s removal period for First Nations people in the United States. Follow Easter, a resilient Cherokee woman, as she embarks on a journey through middle Tennessee in search of a new home for herself and her unborn child. But her quest is fraught with peril as she finds herself pursued by a ruthless criminal intent on claiming her ancestral lands.
Her younger brother, Wahali, marches on the Trail of Tears while her older brother, Degataga, makes sacrifices to hold onto their family's lands; her sister, Lucinda, forges a new life in the Qualla territory of North Carolina. Central to Easter's story is her half-sister, Awinta, whose experiences shed light on the intersectionality of First Nations and African Americans within Cherokee society—some enslaved, others integrated into clans.

Hester’s love, Austin, an African American man who fights to help African Americans victimized by the Confederates, joins her as she encounters other brave women.
US Review of Books
Hester’s Journey:
“This is historical fiction at its best, suffused with romance, drama, and a fair amount of action. The presence of tenacious characters such as Hester, Easter, and Awinta is just one winning aspect of a solid and dynamic narrative that is as much about characters finding their own path as it is about the war that revolves around them.” — by Philip Zozzaro U.S. Review of Books
Minnie Buford, an African-American woman, finds herself pulled between the need for respectability and her love for James, who is white.
For the Love of Minnie
Book 3 in the Apple Hill series, For the Love of Minnie placed as finalist in the Georgia Independent Author Association. Set against the sweeping hardships of the early 1900s, For the Love of Minnie tells the powerful and tender story of a resilient woman determined to rise above tragedy. Minnie grows up near Pulaski, Tennessee, where she helps her father with both the family fields and the business affairs, all while becoming known for her remarkable cooking and devotion to her children.
After suffering a devastating assault at a young age, Minnie refuses to let her past define her future. She endures the oppression of Jim Crow while in an interracial relationship with the father of her younger children. Struggling with social judgment and her deep desire for legitimacy, Minnie later agrees to marry a man of African descent, though their union is never legally sealed.
The novel opens amid the terror and destruction of the 1900 Galveston hurricane and unfolds between Galveston, Texas, and Apple Hill, Tennessee, weaving together a moving portrait of love, endurance, heartbreak, and quiet strength.
